History
The antiquity of this tradition is attested by the Christian apologist Justin Martyr (c. 100 - 165), who noted in his Dialogue with Trypho that the Holy Family had taken refuge in a cave outside of town:
Joseph took up his quarters in a certain cave near the village; and while they were there Mary brought forth the Christ and placed Him in a manger, and here the Magi who came from Arabia found Him.(chapter LXXVIII).
Origen of Alexandria (185 ADa. 254) wrote:
In Bethlehem the cave is pointed out where He was born, and the manger in the cave where He was wrapped in swaddling clothes. And the rumor is in those places, and among foreigners of the Faith, that indeed Jesus was born in this cave who is worshipped and reverenced by the Christians. The first basilica on this site was begun by Saint Helena, the mother of the Emperor Constantine I. Under the supervision of Bishop Makarios of Jerusalem, the construction started in 327 and was completed in 333. That structure was burnt down in the Samaritan Revolt of 529 , drawing pencil sketches .
The current basilica was rebuilt in its present form in 565 by the Emperor Justinian I. When the Persians under Chosroes II invaded in 614, they unexpectedly did not destroy the structure. According to legend, their commander Shahrbaraz was moved by the depiction inside the church of the Three Magi wearing Persian clothing, and commanded that the building be spared. The Crusaders made further repairs and additions to the building during the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem with permission and help given by the Byzantine Emperor, and the first King of Jerusalem was crowned in the church. Over the years, the compound has been expanded, and today it covers approximately 12,000 square meters. The church was one of the direct causes for French involvement in the Crimean War against Russia , doorway curtain .
The church is administered jointly by Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Armenian Apostolic authorities. All three traditions maintain monastic communities on the site , jump rope mat .

Interior of the Church of the Nativity
The main Basilica of the Nativity is maintained by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem. It is designed like a typical Roman basilica, with five aisles (formed by Corinthian columns) and an apse in the eastern end, where the sanctuary is. The church features golden mosaics covering the side walls, which are now largely decayed. The basilica is entered through a very low door, called the "Door of Humility." The original Roman style floor has since been covered over, but there is a trap door in the modern floor which opens up to reveal a portion of the original mosaic floor. The church also features a large gilded iconostasis, and a complex array of lamps throughout the entire building. The wooden rafters were donated by King Edward IV of England. The same king also donated lead to cover the roof; however, this lead was later taken by the Turks, who melted it down for ammunition to use in war against Venice. Stairways on either side of the Sanctuary lead down by winding stairs to the Grotto.
The adjoining Church of St. Catherine, the Roman Catholic Church, was built in a more modern Gothic revival style, and has since been further modernized according to the liturgical trends which followed Vatican II. This is the church where the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem celebrates Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. Certain customs still observed in this Midnight Mass predate Vatican II, but must be maintained because the "status quo" (the customs, rights and duties of the various church authorities that have custody of the Holy Places) was legally fixed by a firman in 1852, under the Ottoman Empire, that is still in force to this day.

The Bas-relief of the Tree of Jesse is a large work by well-known religious sculptor Czesaw Dwigaj which was recently incorporated into the Church of St. Catherine as a gift of Pope Benedict XVI during his trip to the Holy Land in 2009. Measuring in at 3 and a quarter meters wide and 4 meters in height, its corpus represents an olive tree figuring as the Tree of Jesse diplaying Christ's lineage from Abraham through St. Joseph along with other biblical motifs. Situated along the passage used by pilgrims making their way to the Grotto of the Nativity, the bas relief also incorporates symbolism from the Old Testament. The upper portion is dominated by a crowned figure of Christ the King in an open armed pose blessing the Earth. .
The Grotto of the Nativity, an underground cave located beneath the basilica, enshrines the site where Jesus is said to have been born. The exact spot is marked beneath an altar by a 14-pointed silver star set into the marble floor and surrounded by silver lamps. This altar is denominationally neutral, although it features primarily Armenian Apostolic influences. Another altar in the Grotto, which is maintained by the Roman Catholics, marks the site where traditionally Mary laid the newborn Baby in the manger.
Numerous Chapels are found in the compound as well, including the Chapel of Saint Joseph, commemorating the angel's appearance to Joseph, commanding him to flee to Egypt (Matthew 2:13); the Chapel of the Innocents, commemorating the children killed by Herod (Matthew 2:16-18); and the Chapel of Saint Jerome, where traditionally he translated the Bible into Latin (the Vulgate).
Manger Square, a large paved courtyard in front of the Church, is the site where crowds gather on Christmas Eve to sing Christmas carols in anticipation of the midnight services.

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Armenian Apostolic Church follow the Julian Calendar liturgically, whereas the Roman Catholic Church follows the modern Gregorian Calendar. Thus Christmas Eve services for the Eastern and Western confessions will be held on different days. The Roman Catholic Exarch will celebrate the Nativity on December 25; the Orthodox Church will celebrate the Nativity on January 7.
2002 siege

From March to April 2002, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out peration Defensive Shield in the West Bank. As a part of these large-scale military operations, Bethlehem was advanced upon in what was declared as an effort to root out militants. On April 1, 2002, approximately 200 Palestinian militants took shelter in the church. The Israeli Army left only after the full evacuation of the Church of the Nativity on May 22.
Ban of Western leaders from entering
Father Pancratius, the parish priest residing at the Church of the Nativity, declared during the anti-war protest held in front of it on March 30, 2003, that George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Tony Blair and Jack Straw were banned from entering the Church of the Nativity forever. Referring to their role in the Iraq War, Father Pancratius described them as war criminals and child-killers, who would tarnish the Church if they entered it. The then spokesman of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem, Father Attallah Hanna, confirmed this decision, adding that the war in Iraq ndicates that leaders of the invading states did not listen to the church, and hence, we deem them excommunicates and perverted.2]

The basilica was placed on the 2008 Watch List of the 100 Most Endangered Sites by the World Monuments Fund:
The present state of the church is worrying. Many roof timbers are rotting, and have not been replaced since the 19th century. The rainwater that seeps into the building not only accelerates the rotting of the wood and damages the structural integrity of the building, but also damages the 12th-century wall mosaics and paintings. The influx of water also means that there is an ever-present chance of an electrical fire. If another earthquake were to occur on the scale of the one of 1834, the result would most likely be catastrophic. ... It is hoped that the listing will encourage its preservation, including getting the three custodians of the church - the Greek Orthodox Church, the Armenian Orthodox Church, and the Franciscan order - to work together, which has not happened for hundreds of years. The Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority would also have to work together to protect it.

History
Warlords Era
The Republic of China Military Police dated back to 1914. When the provisional president of Republic of China, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, took the office in Guangzhou, an internal security unit was established to enforce military discipline among the troops loyal to the Republic of China Provisional Government. This unit was later renamed Military Police and would gradually expands and become present-day Republic of China Military Police. In 1925, under the supervision of then general Chiang Kai-shek, the military police was expanded from a single company to a full battalion, and was attached to the Northern Expedition Forces the next year. In the next ten years, the military police gradually expanded into several regiments, and was active in purging the communist elements within the Nationalist government.
Xi'an Incident
Main article: Xi'an Incident
On December 12, 1936, while accompanying Chiang Kai-shek on an inspection trip to Xi'an, members of Military Police clashed with Zhang Xueliang's elite bodyguards when the latter were sent to arrest the generalissimo. The military police were caught off guard and out numbered, and were soon overpowered by Zhang's force, who later arrested Chiang and his entourage in what is later known as the Xi'an Incident. More than one hundred military police became casualties in the brief battle. However, to commemorate the heroic actions of the Military Police, Chiang ordered December 12 to be the Military Police Day. This holiday is no longer observed by the Republic of China government.
World War Two and Civil War

During the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Military Police troopers sometimes found themselves clashing with the Japanese despite the fact that they were neither properly trained nor equipped for such combat tasks. In the January 28 Incident and Battle of Nanjing in 1932 and 1937, the Military Police put up some fierce resistance against the Japanese forces, and suffered numerous casualties. The Military Police were also instrumental in operations behind Japanese line, and in time continued to expand under the direction of Chiang Kai-shek. Military Police were also active in keeping the influences of the communists at bay, and were successful at quelling an attempted insurrection by the communists in 1941. The last task of the Military Police in the war was to provide escort to the Japanese delegates to arrange the surrender.
Full scale civil war broke out in 1946 between the Nationalists and the Communists; however, the Military Police were not as active in combat as they once were in the war against Japan. The Military Police were tasked to protect important governmental facilities from sabotages as well as political figures from assassinations. Furthermore, several Military Police regiments were involved in suppressing civil unrests in the newly acquired territories of Taiwan. The Military Police headquarters were moved to Taipei, Taiwan in 1950 following the defeat on mainland and evacuation to Taiwan.
Taiwan
In 1970, under the advice from the US Military Mission to the ROC, the ROC Armed Forces reorganized all their regiments into brigades. On 16 March 1970, the Military Police Command formed up four regional commands from the original military police regiments: 201st regional command from the 101st Military Police regiment for presidential guards, 202nd from the 201st MP regiment for capital garrison, 203rd from the 202nd MP regiment in Miaoli, and 204th from the 203rd MP regiment in Tainan City.
In January 2006, all ten security battalions under the Republic of China Air Force were transferred to the Military Police Command.

ROCMP is responsible for enforcing military law, maintaining military discipline, providing manpower support for the civilian police force, performing combat duty in times of emergency, providing security for certain governmental facilities such as including the Presidential Palace, and performing counter-terrorism and VIP protection operations. It is also responsible for the defense of Taipei, the capital city and political and financial center of the Republic of China.
Intelligence
Due to traditional and historical reasons, Republic of China Military Police still carry out intelligence missions in six categories of Security Investigations to fulfill its tasked functions:

Social Order
These Security Investigations are mainly run by every regional investigation group, the mobile investigation group, and their superior unit: Intelligence Division of the Military Police Command. The main goal of these six Security Investigations is centered at the first one: Special Services for presidential security and protection. More practically, it is to satisfy the request from the Commander in Chiefs, the Taiwan President.
While performing its intelligence missions, Republic of China Military Police is submitted to the supervisory and coordination from National Security Bureau of National Security Council.
Law enforcement
In accordance with; Clause 2, Section 1 of Article 229; Clause 2, Section 1 of Article 230; and Clause 2, Section 1 of Article 231 of The Criminal Procedure Code of the ROC, the commissioned and non-commissioned officers, and the enlisted persons of the MP Corps have the authority to assist public prosecutors or to be commanded by prosecutors to investigate crime activities. A lamella is a gill-shaped structure: fine sheets of material held adjacent to one another, with fluid in-between-(or simply 'welded'-plates). They appear in biological and engineering contexts, such as filters and heat exchangers. The microscopic structures in bone and nacre are lamellae in the materials science sense of the word.
In chemistry (especially mineralogy and materials science), lamellar structures are fine layers, alternating between different materials. They can be produced by chemical effects (as in eutectic solidification), biological means, or a deliberate process of lamination, such as pattern welding. Lamellae can also describe the layers of atoms in the crystal lattice of a material such as a metal.
The term has been used to describe the construction of lamellar armour, as well as the layered structures that can be described by a lamellar vector field.
In a water-treatment context, Lamellae filters may be referred to as plate filters or tube filters.
This term is used to describe a certain type of Ichthyosis, a congenital skin condition. Lamellar Ichthyosis often presents with a "colloidal" membrane at birth. It is characterized by generalized dark scaling.
The term -lamella- or -lamellae- is also used in the flooring industry to describe the finished top-layer of an engineered wood floor, usually the desired species. E.G. An engineered walnut floor will have several layers of other species of wood and a top walnut lamellae.

Overview
The accurate measurement of displacement and strains during deformation of advanced materials and devices continues to be a primary challenge to designers and experimental mechanicians. The increasing complexity of technological devices with stringent space requirements leads to imperfect boundary conditions that have to be properly accounted for. The push toward miniaturizing devices down to nanometer length scales imparts additional difficulties in measuring strains as the application of conventional extensometers and resistance foil gages are cumbersome, damaging, or even impossible. Compounding this problem is also the fact that compliance of small-scale testing machines precludes the use of the displacement of external actuators for estimating specimen strain. As a consequence, a technique with the following features is extremely desirable: i) no contact with the specimen required, ii) sufficient spatial resolution to measure locally at the region of interest, iii) the a
bility to capture non-uniform full-field deformations, and iv) a direct measurement that does not require recourse to a numerical or analytical model.
Optical methods are a logical solution to this litany of challenges. One approach is the interferometric strain/displacement gage (ISDG) developed by Sharpe., a laser-based technique that affords significant advantages over conventional strain measurement methods. ISDG utilizes two markers on the surface of the specimen that provide interference fringes that are analogous to Young two slit experiment, although in reflection as opposed to transmission. This technique offers superior resolution (as low as 5 ??) and local strain determination, but is limited to 1D measurements and requires some degree of experimental complexity. It also demands the use of markers, which have typically been either Vickers microhardness indents or patterned lines (applied by gas-assisted chemistries in the FIB or physical vapor deposition and photolithography). In the case of thin film mechanical testing where thicknesses are in the submicrometre range, hardness indents are out of the question and
deposited lines can be up to an order of magnitude thicker than the specimen itself, which could significantly alter the apparent intrinsic properties of the material being tested.
Digital image correlation (DIC) techniques have been increasing in popularity, especially in micro- and nano-scale mechanical testing applications due to its relative ease of implementation and use. Advances in digital imaging have been the enabling technology for this method and while white-light optics has been the predominate approach, DIC has recently been extended to SEM and AFM. Above and beyond the ability of image-based methods to provide a ox-seat to the events that are occurring during deformation, these techniques have been applied to the testing of many materials systems because it offers a full-field description and is relatively robust at tracking a wide range of arkers and varying surface contrast.
The appeal of these image-based techniques, coupled with the lack of flexibility and prohibitive cost of commercial DIC software packages, provided the impetus for the development of a custom in-house software suite using the mathematical package MATLAB as the engine for calculations. This resulted in an open-source package that was uploaded to the public domain in an effort to provide free tools to users, but also to generate feedback for potential improvements and addition to the code. As such, a brief discussion of the primary features and methodology of this technique, along with some background on DIC and peak tracking will be presented here. DIC for strain measurement constitutes a major field of research and is followed by a healthy, vigorous, and dynamic discussion and discourse, so it is not the author intention to provide an exhaustive survey of the field. Instead, a more focused description of the tools required to make accurate measurements that provide insight on
the deformation mechanisms that govern plasticity in nc-Al thin films is given.
DIC was first conceived and developed at the University of South Carolina in the early 1980s and has been optimized and improved in recent years. DIC is predicated on the maximization of a correlation coefficient that is determined by examining pixel intensity array subsets on two or more corresponding images and extracting the deformation mapping function that relates the images (Figure 1). An iterative approach is used to minimize the 2D correlation coefficient by using nonlinear optimization techniques. The cross correlation coefficient rij is defined as

The coordinates or grid points (xi ,yj) and (xi* ,yj*) are related by the deformation that occurs between the two images. If the motion is perpendicular to the optical axis of the camera, then the relation between (xi ,yj) and (xi* ,yj*) can be approximated by a 2D affine transformation such as:

Here u and v are translations of the center of the sub-image in the X and Y directions, respectively. The distances from the center of the sub-image to the point (x, y) are denoted by ?x and ?y. Thus, the correlation coefficient rij is a function of displacement components (u, v) and displacement gradients .

DIC has proven to be very effective at mapping deformation in macroscopic mechanical testing, where the application of specular markers (e.g. paint, toner powder) or surface finishes from machining and polishing provide the needed contrast to correlate images well. However, these methods for applying surface contrast do not extend to the application of freestanding thin films for several reasons. First, vapor deposition at normal temperatures on semiconductor grade substrates results in mirror-finish quality films with rms roughnesses that are typically on the order of several nanometers. No subsequent polishing or finishing steps are required, and unless electron imaging techniques are employed that can resolve microstructural features, the films do not possess enough useful surface contrast to adequately correlate images. Typically this challenge can be circumvented by applying paint that results in a random speckle pattern on the surface, although the large and turbulent f
orces resulting from either spraying or applying paint to the surface of a freestanding thin film are too high and would break the specimens. In addition, the sizes of individual paint particles are on the order of ?ms, while the film thickness is only several hundred nms, which would be analogous to supporting a large boulder on a thin sheet of paper.
Very recently, advances in pattern application and deposition at reduced length scales have exploited small-scale synthesis methods including nano-scale chemical surface restructuring and photolithography of computer-generated random specular patterns to produce suitable surface contrast for DIC. The application of very fine powder particles that electrostatically adhere to the surface of the specimen and can be digitally tracked is one approach. The Homer Laughlin China Company initially began as Laughlin Pottery in East Liverpool, Ohio. The company was started in 1871 by brothers Shakespeare and Homer Laughlin, however Shakespeare would later leave the company in 1879. In 1889, William Edwin Wells joined Homer and seven years later the two would incorporate. Homer would sell his interest to Wells shortly thereafter. The firm experienced rapid growth and opened a facility in Newell, West Virginia in 1903. By the late 1920s all production was centered at the West Virginia factory and the Ohio site was abandoned.
Dinnerware lines

In the 1920s the firm advertised itself as the largest pottery company in the world. Estimates of production range from 25,000 to 35,000 different patterns over the century plus. Homer Laughlin began producing the popular and colorful Fiesta line in 1936. In addition to Fiesta, two other lines of colorful dinnerware in bright, solid-colored glazes were introduced in the 1930s. Harlequin was introduced in 1938 as a less expensive alternative to Fiesta available at Woolworth's stores. They also produced Riviera dinnerware, which is distinctive for its triple-scalloped edges. Riviera was available red, yellow, light green and mauve blue, ivory and occasionally cobalt blue. Production of Riviera ceased in the late 1940s. Harlequin was produced until 1964 and was briefly reintroduced later.

K1 Speed is a chain of indoor kart racing tracks in the western United States. K1 Speed also markets its own line of automotive and karting race gear called K1 Race Gear.
K1 Speed was co-founded in 2003 by race car driver Boris Said. K1 Speed features European-built electric go karts capable of 40mph (64km/h), asphalt tracks, and computerized scoring. Ranging from 70,000 to 100,000sqft (6,500 to 9,300m2) in size, K1 Speed's facilities are the largest indoor tracks on the West Coast.
As of 2008, the chain operates tracks in Carlsbad, Irvine, Anaheim, and Ontario, California and one track in the Seattle, Washington area. A sixth location is scheduled to open in Torrance, California in late 2008.[dated info]

Tobin Dorn (born May 26, 1972 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American artist/designer best known for his contributions in the footwear industry.
He began designing athletic shoes professionally in 1996 upon graduation from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. His first year of athletic shoe designing was for Fila and he was a designer in the cross training category having designed the first models for New York Yankee, Derek Jeter. In 1997, Puma AG contacted Dorn to lead a team of designers in SoHo, New York. Dorn designed and developed both performance and fashion running collections as well as designing concept collections with Ciano Farmer in a joint collaboration that resulted in the duo premiering on the television program, 60 Minutes, in March 2000. Dorn presented visions for the new millennium for the basketball line, "The Cage", with Farmer and was later invited to design boot concepts for Regency's new film, X-Men, for Arnon Milchan.
Dorn moved to Brazil in 2001 and began to work with sports brand, Olympikus, designing their adventure footwear collections. In 2003, Puma AG contacted Dorn to work on the Complete Running Series. He designed various performance models for Puma and ultimately designed the innovative Olympic track suit uniforms that the Jamaican women's Olympic relay team wore at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
With his creation of the New Level Design studio in 2003, Dorn was able to design and develop over 50 new athletic shoes, technology concepts, logos, and apparel collections for the brands Umbro, Kappa, Fila and Tryon from 2004-06. The Brazilian beach soccer team wore the Dorn designed uniforms by Umbro in 2004. In 2006, the first of Dorn's footwear technologies was launched by Kappa, Kappapult, and the apparel technology, BodyAC. Umbro then launched their indoor soccer technology, Centipax, that was inspired from the segmented body of a centipede. Umbro then went on to launch their premium technology, SC3, that Dorn calls Skin Concept 3. This concept was inspired from human skin with its three layers and boasts maximum comfort, flexibility, stability and propulsion. Tryon's "Adventure" Series lines also debuted at the international footwear trade show, Couro Moda, in S?o Paulo, Brazil, 2005. Kildare Brazil worked closely with Dorn to redesign their corporate logo and brand i
dentity in 2006. Dorn designed performance apparel collections for Gustavo Kuerten, 3 time world tennis champ, for his brand "GUGA". In August 2006, Dorn started to work for, S?o Paulo Alpargatas, and is designing footwear performance collections for the brands Mizuno, Timberland, Topper and Rainha.
In 2006, Dorn established the NDG, a design collective of international designers and directors delivering design solutions for brands that include logo & graphic design, sport & fashion product design, web design, photography, film and architecture.

El Campo Santo is a cemetery located at the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum, 15415 East Don Julian Road, in City of Industry, California.
As one of the oldest private cemeteries in Southern California, El Campo Santo contains the remains of the pioneering Workman-Temple family as well as P Pico, the last governor of Alta California, and other prominent pioneer families. Within its low brick walls, the one-half acre cemetery features a Neoclassical mausoleum and a small cemetery plot surrounded by a Gothic Revival cast-iron fence.
In the early 1850s, the family of William 'Don Julian' Workman (1799-1867) established El Campo Santo, or "the sacred ground," as a cemetery solely for the use of their family. Along with a cemetery plot enclosed by an ornate cast-iron fence, they built a Gothic Revival brick chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas by Bishop Thaddeus Amat of Los Angeles. Among the first to be buried here was William Workman's brother David Workman (1797 - 1855), who was killed in an accident while driving cattle to the gold fields in Northern California.
At the turn of the century, the cemetery was abandoned and its brick chapel destroyed by fire. Walter P. Temple, a grandson of the Workmans, successfully filed a lawsuit preventing any further desecration of the cemetery. In 1917, he was able to purchase the cemetery and the surrounding 75acres (300,000m2) and began restoration. In place of the chapel, however, he built a cast stone Neoclassical mausoleum and moved the remains of his family inside. In 1921, he also transferred the remains of P Pico and his wife, Ygnacia Alvarado de Pico, from old Calvary Cemetery on North Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles, which was being relocated, and had them entombed in the mausoleum.
The Workman Home and Family Cemetery are designated California Historical Landmark No. 874. The cemetery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, No. 145, on November 20, 1974.
El Campo Santo is open to visitors through a self-guided tour described in the free brochure available at the museum office.

Plot synopsis
Bret and Jemaine ask a "semi-professional" actor to cheer Murray up after a gig doesn't go well, but the actor gets a little too much into his part and offers the band a record deal.
Plot
The boys play a gig in a club to just a handful of people. After the gig when Bret and Jemaine are at the bar, a "semi-professional" actor named Ben introduces himself. He thinks they are a comedy act and that Bret and Jemaine are just playing characters. He offers them his card expressing a wish to work with them in the future. At a post show debriefing Murray gets depressed about the lack of success he has had promoting the band to record companies.
Bret and Jemaine visit Ben at the dry cleaners where he works. They ask him to call Murray posing as a record company executive and let him down gently. Ben calls Murray posing as "Stefan Gucci", but after Murray starts begging and crying, he breaks down and agrees to give the band a record deal.
Murray and the boys go to dinner with "Stefan Gucci". Despite Jemaine's attempts to get them out of the mess, Murray and Bret agree to the two million dollar deal that the carried away Ben offers them.
Following the filming of a Lord of the Rings-themed music video, the boys try to tell Murray about the mistake, but his excited mood causes them to postpone the bad news. They finally get around to telling him the following night after Murray throws them an expensive wrap party. A fuming Murray storms off.
Bret and Jemaine visit Ben again to discuss the mess. He gives them an I.O.U. for the money Murray has spent. He tells them he will be able to pay them back soon because he has got a part in a Martin Scorsese movie about a dry cleaner, but they don't believe him. They visit Murray at his office and make up with him. They even manage to cheer him up a little.
During the credits, we see Ben playing a scene with John Turturro in the aforementioned film, titled Dry Cleaner.
Notes
David Costabile (Doug) is listed in the credits but does not actually appear in the episode, except perhaps as the unseen driver of Mel's car.
In the opening nightclub scene, Bret is wearing a t-shirt made from the picture of Sally he embroidered for her in the "Sally Returns" episode.
Although Mel officially quit the fan club in the previous episode, "New Fans", she is back again at the beginning of this episode.
The basic plot of this episode was previously used in the second episode of the Flight of the Conchords radio series.

"Cheer Up, Murray"
Bret and Jemaine sing "Cheer Up, Murray" to Murray after the disappointing concert. They attempt to cheer him up by describing all the good things in his life, although they can't help slipping in some not-so-good things as well. The scene takes place in the store room of the night club. During the song we see a number of short sequences featuring aspects of Murray's life depicted through animated pictures in a photo album.
"Frodo"
In a park, the guys film a music video parodying The Lord of the Rings. The lyrics summarise the story from the first film and the end of the third film. Greg acts as cameraman whilst Bret plays both Frodo and Legolas, Jemaine plays Sam and Gimli, Murray plays Gandalf, Mel plays Arwen, Eugene plays Saruman and Dave plays Aragorn. "Frodo" (a.k.a. "Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring") is sung in a mix of styles including folk, heavy metal and rap. The song sounds similar to the Led Zeppelin song, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You".
Cultural references
This episode features a prominent reference to The Lord of the Rings movies, which were all filmed in New Zealand and featured Bret in a small role. Several other episodes have contained references to The Lord of the Rings as well, usually in the context that it is one of the few things for which New Zealand is famous.

Background
The song features R&B singer Dwele on its chorus and contains additional vocals provided by Connie Mitchell of the Australian electronic group Sneaky Sound System. The collaboration came about when Kanye met Mitchell's bandmates Angus McDonald and Daimon Downey at a diner in Sydney, Australia. Seeking musical inspiration, West asked McDonald for ideas, who suggested that he be introduced to Mitchell. After their meeting, West asked Mitchell to sing over the song's vocals and well as certain other tracks on Graduation. Mitchell later admitted that while she previously didn't know who Kanye was and never really cared for hip-hop, the collaboration had changed her views.
As a result of its popularity, "Flashing Lights" was utilized by mutiple media outlets. In December 2007, the song was used in an ad campaign for French vodka C?roc, featuring spokesperson Sean Combs. It is featured in the popular action-adventure video game Grand Theft Auto IV on the in-game contemporary hip-hop radio station, The Beat 102.7. The song came to be included on Now That's What I Call Music 27. In January 2009, "Flashing Lights" was used once again for the highly conceptualized promotional TV spots co-directed by Emnet Mulugeta and Marcus Engstrand of the then-upcoming sixth season of Nip/Tuck.
Music and structure
"Flashing Lights" is an electronic-tinged Hip-hop/R&B song composed in the key of F? minor. It is written in common time and moves at 90 beats per minute. The main and background vocal range for the song spans nearly three octaves, from C4 to E5. Opening with a gradual, rising crescendo of symphonic strings before transforming into a moderately-paced, synth-driven beat, "Flashing Lights" tells the operatic narrative of man contemplating the complexities of a tragic relationship. After the introduction, in which Mitchell's processed vocals repeat the titular hook four times, West raps the two verses, each one followed by the hook coupled with the chorus sung by Dwele. Following a break, the song enters a passage where its heavily manipulated hook echoes in and out before closing with an outro.
Chart performance
Fueled by the momemtum of Graduation's release, even before actually being release as a single, "Flashing Lights" debuted at number sixty-one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs the chart week of November 10, 2007, eventually peaking at number twelve. It was the "Hot Shot Debut" of the week the chart week of December 8 on the Hot 100, debuting at number seventy-five, and peaking at the number twenty-nine spot on January 24, 2008. The song debuted the chart week of February 23, 2008 on the Canadian Hot 100 at number eighty-eight, and eventually rose to fifty-four. Despite only charting at number 29, in the UK, the song has remained successful and is played on the KISS network daily.
Music video

The music video for "Flashing Lights" was co-directed by Spike Jonze along with West himself and produced by Jonathan Becker and Joshua Greenberg of Bucks Boys Productions. Filmed entirely in slow-motion, the video begins with a Ford Mustang Bullit rolling onto the screen and stopping at dusk in the desert outside Las Vegas, Nevada. As the bright, red taillights turn off, the song breaks into its titular refrain and Houston-based Playboy model Rita G exits the vehicle dressed in a wig, fur coat and large black sunglasses. Walking a distance away from the car, she strips down to her lingerie and lights her clothes on fire. As she walks back towards the car with flames at her back, West's vocals begin. Kanye himself finally makes his appearance when the woman opens the trunk to reveal him lying in it tied up and gagged. She gently strokes his helpless, terrified face and gives him a light kiss, before retrieving a nearby shovel. As the camera pans out, the woman raises the shov
el over her head and repeatedly stabs it into the trunk. The video then abruptly cuts to the words "Flashing Lights" written red letters against a black screen before concluding over a minute earlier than the album version of the song.
The music video originally premiered at the Entertainment Weekly Grammy Award after-party on February 10, 2008. It was supposed to premiere on BET on February 13, 2008, but was subsequently pulled from schedule. Though it received much airplay, the video for "Flashing Lights" stands as one of West's most controversial music videos. Upon its release, viewers expressed that the video seemed too short and for the most part uneventful, while others accused it of containing overly violent content. West retorted that they simply could not comprehend the subtle symbolism and metaphors embedded within the video, going on to state that he loved the video and couldn't care less if someone else felt differently.
In total, three separate videos were made for "Flashing Lights" with the one aired on television being the final version. The second video for the single leaked onto the internet on May 23, 2008. It features UK model Charlotte Carter-Allen in most of the video. Less than a week apart, a third separate music video for "Flashing Lights" was released on May 29, 2008. Bearing resemblance to a murder-mystery tale, this third version featured multiple enigmatic characters under the roof of a haunted mansion. Following the releases, West he maintained on his blog he did not release the two videos. He had produced more than one version of the same video as is common practice and only selected the one he was the happiest with; the rest were leaked.

A barbell is a piece of exercise equipment used in weight training, weightlifting and powerlifting. It consists of a metal bar that is 5 to 7feet (2.1m) long. The central portion varies in diameter, but is close to one inch (2.54 cm), and is engraved with a knurled crosshatch pattern to help lifters get a good grip. Disc weights (plates) are slid onto the outer portions of the barbell to obtain the desired total weight. These weights are often secured with collars to prevent them from sliding off during the exercise (which can result in injuries)[citation needed].

Olympic barbells
An Olympic or weightlifting barbell consists of a bar in which the sleeves rotate. This enables the discs to spin on their own axis, which eliminates the rotational-inertia effect placed upon the lifter during such explosive lifting and enables him/her to descend under the bar with ease.
Men's bar
A men's Olympic bar is a metal bar that is 2.2 m (7.22 ft) long and weighs 20 kg (44.1 lbs). The outer ends are 50 mm in diameter, while the grip section is 28 mm. The bars have grip marks spaced 910 mm apart to allow intuitive grip width measurement. It is the standard used in competitive weightlifting where men and women compete at the highest level - the Commonwealth Games, Pan-American Games, World Championships, and the Olympics. The total weight of the barbell varies based on the type and number of plates loaded onto the ends the bar and the lift being performed.
In addition to regular Olympic bars, powerlifting often requires use of sturdier bars to better accommodate the heavier weights being used in the sport. These bars can be longer (to allow loading of more plates) and thicker (to deform less under load). Additionally, powerlifting bars have their grip marks spaced closer, at 810 mm. This closer spacing is used to check legal grip width in the bench press. The International Powerlifting federation does not, however, allow the use of longer or thicker bars.
Women's bar
A women's Olympic bar is similar to the men's bar, but is shorter (2.05 m) and lighter (15 kg / 33.07 lbs) with a thinner grip section (25 mm). Also in contrast to the men's bar, the women's bar does not sport a center knurl.
Plates
Olympic plates are color coded according to weight, and the plates that are 10 kg or heavier are 450 mm in diameter with a center hole of 51 mm, while those lighter than 10kg can vary in diameter. Competition plates are milled to strict tolerances, and are made to closely fit onto the large ends of the bar. 10 kg and heavier plates are constructed with a rubber bumper design to allow safe dropping, while the smaller plates are either rubber coated or metal throughout.
The plates are colored as follows:
25 kg: red
20 kg: blue
15 kg: yellow
10 kg: green
5 kg: white
2.5 kg: red
2 kg: blue
1.5 kg: yellow
1 kg: green
0.5 kg: white
Additionally, different plates are used outside of IWF sanctioned competition, most prominently in powerlifting. These include:
50 kg: green
45 kg: gold (fairly rare, typically only used in some powerlifting federations, including the IPA, WDFPF and their affiliates)
Plates used in training need not conform to IWF or powerlifting specifications, and can be of any color. Often they do not have bumpers and are typically cast iron. In training, larger 450 mm versions exist of the lighter 5 kg and 2.5 kg plates to accommodate proper lifting position for young and beginning athletes. These can be aluminum or plastic with bumper edges.
Collars
Standard collars can be of any material, usually metal, and they can weigh up to 2.5 kg each for both men and women.
A bar with a pair of collars, the plates not counted, can weigh as much as 25 kg for men and 20 kg for women depending on the collars.
Other types
Standard Barbell
Standard plates have a central hole that is one inch (25 mm) wide. Standard barbells are one inch wide all the way along. Standard barbells typically weigh 10 kg, roughly equivalent to 22lb (10.0kg). In some countries or regions, 30 mm bars are also quite common.
EZ Curl Bar
The EZ curl bar is a variant of the barbell that is often used for bicep curls and lying triceps extensions. Its zigzag grips allow the user's wrists and forearms to take a more neutral position. This reduces the risk of repetitive stress injury in these exercises.[citation needed]

The Cadillac Commercial Chassis was basically a strengthened version of the long-wheelbase Cadillac Fleetwood limousine frame intended to carry the extra weight of the bodywork, rear deck and cargo area of funeral coaches and ambulances. Specifically designed for professional car use, the rear of the Cadillac Commercial Chassis was considerably lower than the passenger car frame, thereby lowering the rear deck height as well for ease of loading and unloading. They were shipped as incomplete cars to coachbuilders for final assembly. As shipped from the factory, a Cadillac Commercial Chassis was little more than a complete rolling chassis along with front end sheetmetal with all lighting and trim, dashboard, air conditioning (if specified) and the main road controls. Rear quarter panels and sometimes the front door shells were shipped with the chassis for use in the finished coachwork.
Cadillac's adoption of unibody construction in recent years means that Cadillac-based funeral coaches are usually - though not always - produced from modified sedans. Motor vehicle standards of the United States and Canada which called for increased weight ratings as of the 1979 model year spelled the end of automobile-based ambulances and the beginning of the van-based units seen today throughout North America.

Former hearses and ambulances usually end up as collector's items and/or customized. They are often used during Halloween festivities and/or art cars.
The art car community is a haven for retired hearses; a Superior hearse is used as a daily driver in the Houston, Texas area for a hair salon. Other non-hearse Cadillacs have been converted into art cars.

Polyester is a 1981 American John Waters comedy film starring Divine, Tab Hunter, Edith Massey, and Mink Stole. It was filmed in Waters' native Baltimore, Maryland, and features a gimmick called "Odorama", whereby viewers could smell what they saw on screen through scratch and sniff cards.
The film is a satire of suburban life involving divorce, abortion, adultery, alcoholism, foot fetishism, and the Religious Right.

Plot
Polyester tells the story of housewife Francine Fishpaw (Divine), whose life is crumbling around her in her upper middle class suburban Baltimore home. Her husband, Elmer (David Samson), is a polyester-clad lout who owns an X-rated theater, causing anti-pornography protesters to picket the Fishpaws' house. Francine's children are Lu-Lu (Mary Garlington), her spoiled, slutty daughter, and Dexter (Ken King), her delinquent, glue-sniffing son who derives illicit pleasure from stomping on women's feet. Also adding to Francine's troubles is her snobby, cocaine-snorting mother, La Rue (Joni Ruth White), who robs Francine blind and only cares about her "valuable shopping time."
Francine seeks solace in her best friend, Cuddles Kovinsky (Edith Massey), an independently wealthy, simple-minded woman and the world's oldest debutante. Cuddles was once the Fishpaws' housekeeper, but she has inherited a large sum of money from a very affluent family that she used to work for and befriended Francine. This infuriates Francine's class-conscious mother, who admonishes Francine, "She was a scrubwoman. Give her...a ham at Easter, but for God's sake, don't hang around with her!" Cuddles tries to cheer up Francine with "seize-the-day" bromides, to no avail.
Francine discovers that her husband is having an affair with his secretary, Sandra Sullivan (Mink Stole), and later confronts them during a tryst at a motel and demands a divorce. Francine then falls into alcoholism and depression, exacerbated by her children's behavior: Lu-lu becomes pregnant with her delinquent boyfriend Bobo (Stiv Bators)'s child and announces to her mother, "I'm having an abortion, and I can't wait!"; and after Dexter is arrested at a supermarket for stomping on a woman's foot, the media reveal he's the "Baltimore foot stomper".
Lu-Lu goes to family planning clinic for an abortion, but is harassed by anti-abortion picketers. She flees, goes home, and tries to induce a miscarriage, causing Francine to call an unwed mothers' home. Two nuns arrive, cart Lu-Lu out of the house, lock her in the trunk of a car, and whisk her off to a Catholic home for unwed mothers.
Meanwhile, on Halloween evening, La Rue is shot by Bobo and his friend, who have come to trash the Fishpaw house. La Rue manages to retrieve the gun and shoots Bobo dead. Lu-Lu comes home from the unwed mothers' home and, upon discovering her dead boyfriend, tries to commit suicide by sticking her head in the oven. Francine comes home, sees her daughter's suicide attempt, and faints.
After this, Francine's life begins to change. Dexter is released from jail, completely rehabilitated. Lu-Lu suffers a miscarriage from her suicide attempt and sees the error of her ways, turning from a high-school harlot to an artistic flower child who enthuses, "Look mother, I've discovered macram!". Francine finally summons the strength to tell off La Rue. A beacon of light arrives in the form of lounge-suit-wearing, Corvette-driving Todd Tomorrow (Tab Hunter), lifting Francine's spirits. Todd proposes marriage to an elated Francine, who accepts.
However, it is soon revealed that Todd is romantically involved with La Rue and they are conspiring to embezzle Francine's divorce settlement and drive her insane. Meanwhile, Elmer and Sandra break into the house to kill Francine, but are felled by Dexter and Lu-Lu (Dexter steps on Sandra's foot, causing her to accidentally shoot Elmer; Lu-Lu uses her macram to strangle Sandra.) Cuddles and her German chauffeur/fianc Heintz (Hans Kramm) arrive on the scene and strike La Rue and Todd with their limousine. The film concludes with a happy ending for Francine, her children, and Cuddles and Heintz.

John Waters
Waters' usual troupe of actors, the Dreamlanders, played minor roles in Polyester compared to Waters' previous films Desperate Living, Female Trouble, and Pink Flamingos, which starred several Dreamlanders in major roles. Only two Dreamlanders, Divine and Edith Massey, received top billing in Polyester. Dreamlander perennials Mink Stole, Mary Vivian Pearce, Cookie Mueller, Sharon Niesp, Marina Melin, Susan Lowe, and Jean Hill each played small roles in Polyester. While their parts are integral to the plot, they are much smaller compared to their earlier roles.
Polyester was the first of Waters' movies to skirt the mainstream, even garnering an R rating (his previous films were all unrated or rated X). The film was set in a middle-class suburb of Baltimore instead of its slums and bohemian neighborhoods (the setting of Waters' earlier films).
"Women pictures"
Polyester was meant as a send-up of omen pictures, an exploitative genre of film that was popular from the 1950s-60s and typically featured bored, unfulfilled, or otherwise troubled women, usually middle-aged suburban housewives, finding release or escape through the arrival of a handsome younger man. omen pictures were typically hackneyed B-movies, but Waters specifically styled Polyester after the work of genuinely talented director Douglas Sirk, making use of similar lighting and editing techniques, even using film equipment and movie-making techniques from Sirk's era.[citation needed]
Odorama
Odors, especially Francine's particularly keen sense of smell, play an important role in the film. To highlight this, Waters designed Odorama, a "scratch-and-sniff" gimmick inspired by the work of William Castle and the 1960 film Scent of Mystery, which featured a device called Smell-O-Vision. Special cards with spots numbered 1 through 10 were distributed to audience members before the show, in the manner of 3D glasses. When a number flashed on the screen, viewers were to scratch and sniff the appropriate spot. Smells included the scent of flowers, pizza, glue, gas, grass, and feces.

Isuzu Motors Ltd. (?????????? ,Isuzu Jid?sha Kabushiki-gaisha?), (TYO: 7202) is a Japanese car, commercial vehicle and heavy truck manufacturing company, headquartered in Tokyo. In 2005, Isuzu became the world's largest manufacturer of medium to heavy duty trucks. It has assembly and manufacturing plants in the Japanese city of Fujisawa, as well as in the prefectures Tochigi and Hokkaid?. Isuzu is famous for producing commercial vehicles and diesel engines - it produced 16 million diesel engines in 2003 alone, which can be found in vehicles all over the world.
In most of Asia, Africa, and Europe, Isuzu is mostly known for trucks of all sizes, after Isuzu small automobile sales drastically plummeted and Isuzu had to drop all sales of sedans and compact cars in the late 1990s. In the United States, Isuzu is mostly known for manufacturing rebadged Chevrolet Colorados as the Isuzu i-290 and the i-370, and also GMC's Envoy has been rebadged as the Isuzu Ascender. These are currently the only passenger vehicles Isuzu markets in the United States. Isuzu as a corporation has always been primarily a manufacturer of small to medium compact automobiles and commercial trucks of sizes medium duty and larger, but markets around the world show different needs. Isuzu has a contract with Budget Truck Rental to manufacture their rental trucks. This contract is also shared with Ford, GMC, and Navistar International.
On November 7, 2006, Toyota acquired 5.9% of Isuzu, making them the third largest shareholder behind ITOCHU and Mitsubishi Corporation.

History
1916 - Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Co., Ltd. and Tokyo Gas and Electric Industrial Co. cooperatively plan to build automobiles.
1918 - A technical cooperation with Wolseley Motor Company (UK) is initiated. In 1922 the first Wolseley model A-9 car is domestically produced. The CP truck follows two years later.
1933 - Ishikawajima Automotive Works merges with DAT Automobile Manufacturing and changes its name to Automobile Industries Co., Ltd.
1934 - A meeting with the Ministry of Trade and Industry results in the renaming of the truck to Isuzu, after the Isuzu River. The word translated into English means "fifty bells".
1949 - Isuzu is adopted as company name.
1953 - With technical assistance of Rootes (UK) the Hillman Minx passenger car is produced.
1971 - A capital agreement with General Motors is signed.
1972 - The Chevrolet LUV becomes the first Isuzu-built vehicle to be sold in the United States. A decade later, it is replaced by a domestic vehicle, the Chevrolet S-10.
1973 - Isuzu introduces the Gemini, which is co-produced with General Motors. It is sold in the United States as Buick's Opel by Isuzu.
1981 - Isuzu-branded consumer and commercial vehicles are successfully exported to the United States. The Isuzu P'Up is the first model sold to consumers as an Isuzu, instead of a Chevrolet or Buick.
1987 - SIA (Subaru-Isuzu Automotive) is established as a joint venture with Fuji Heavy Industries (parent company of Subaru). Shortly thereafter, the Lafayette, Indiana plant becomes operational.
1993 - Isuzu ceases to export the Stylus (Geo Spectrum), its last cars in America, after ending the Impulse (Geo Storm) the year before.
1994 - Isuzu announces new vehicle exchange program with Honda, providing Honda with the Isuzu Rodeo (to be sold as the Honda Passport) and Isuzu Trooper (to be sold as the Acura SLX) and providing Isuzu with the Honda Odyssey (to be sold as the Isuzu Oasis). This has the effect of adding two SUVs to Honda's lineup and a minivan to Isuzu's lineup.
1996 - Isuzu's sales peak in the United States.
1998 - General Motors and Isuzu form DMAX, a joint venture to produce diesel engines. Isuzu resurrects the beloved Amigo. The uniquely styled VehiCROSS concept is unveiled.
1999 - GM raises its stake in Isuzu to 49%, effectively gaining control of the company. GM quickly follows this up with the appointment of an American GM executive to head Isuzu's North American Operations. This is the first time a non-Japanese executive has ever held such a high position at Isuzu. The U.S. introduction of the production version of the heralded VehiCROSS is met with mixed reviews, as its high pricetag, unique styling and two-door configuration don't seem to meet with market demands.
2000 - Concept convertible version of the VehiCROSS appears in the movie Mission to Mars.
2001 - Joe Isuzu, the immensely popular pitchman with implausible claims, is hired once again to promote the new Axiom. Isuzu sales begin to slide due to the aging of the Rodeo and Trooper, and poor management & lack of assistance from GM. Isuzu changes the name of the 2-door Amigo convertible to Rodeo Sport in an attempt to associate it with the better selling 4-door Rodeo. Movie Spy kids features Isuzu Axiom and Trooper.
Early 2002 - Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru's parent company) buys Isuzu's share of Lafayette, Indiana plant. Subaru Isuzu Automotive (SIA) becomes Subaru of Indiana Automotive. After 8 years of heavy Honda Passport sales and light Isuzu Oasis sales, Honda and Isuzu cooperatively end their vehicle exchange agreement. The Oasis is dropped, and Honda replaces the Passport with the Pilot. Also, it was Isuzu's last year for passenger vehicles in Canada, as Isuzus in Canada were mostly sold at Saturn-Saab dealerships.
Late 2002 - Isuzu begins the re-purchase of its stock from shareholders, primarily General Motors. Isuzu reduces GM's 49% share to 12% as part of this comprehensive recapitalization plan. As part of this reorganization, GM gains full control of DMAX and Isuzu Motors Polska, as well as ownership of all diesel engine designs from Isuzu. Isuzu drops the venerable Trooper from the North American lineup.
2003 - The Rodeo Sport is discontinued.
July 2004 - Production of the Rodeo and Axiom cease. Sales in North America slow to just 27,188, with the discontinued Rodeo and Axiom making up 71% of that total. The number of Isuzu dealerships in the U.S. begins a rapid decline.
2005 - Isuzu dealers in the United States have only 2 models: the Ascender and the i-series pickup truck. The i-series is a rebadged Chevrolet Colorado, the Ascender is a re-badged GMC Envoy. At this point, Isuzu in the United States is primarily a distributor of medium duty trucks such as the NPR series. These vehicles are sourced both from Japan and U.S. plants in Janesville, WI and Flint, MI. Isuzu has 290 light-vehicle dealers in the U.S. as of August 2006, and sells an average of just two Ascenders per dealer per month. Plans to introduce a new Thai-built SUV, expected to be added for 2007, are shelved; Isuzu Motors Limited believes that a new SUV would be too risky and proceeds with the launch of the i-series trucks. Rumors of Isuzu's withdrawal from the U.S. market are rampant. Despite extremely low sales figures of 12,177 passenger vehicles for 2005 (with leftover Axiom and Rodeos making up 30% of this), Isuzu Motors America announces its first profit in years, mainly
due to restructuring cuts.
2006 - Production of the 7-passenger Ascender ends in February with the closure of GM's Oklahoma City Assembly plant, leaving Isuzu with the 5-passenger Ascender, built in Moraine, Ohio, and the low-selling i-Series as its...
